Understanding, detecting, and treating breast cancer with compassion
At KD Cancer Centre, we are committed to providing state-of-the-art cancer care through a multidisciplinary approach, combining advanced technology, surgical precision, and compassionate patient support & rehabilitation.
What is surgical oncology?
Surgical oncology is a specialised branch of surgery dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. A surgical oncologist is a specialist who has received additional training specifically in cancer surgery, going beyond general surgery. At KD Cancer Centre, each type of cancer is managed by a dedicated organ-specific surgical team, meaning you see a specialist who operates on that specific cancer every day.
How does surgical oncology help you?
Surgery plays a critical role in cancer treatment by
- Removing the primary tumour (curative surgery)
- Removing lymph nodes that may contain cancer cells
- Debulking: Reducing tumour size to help other treatments work better
- Relieving symptoms caused by the tumour
- Providing tissue for diagnosis (biopsy)
- Reconstructing areas affected by cancer treatment
Your treatment is decided by a team, not just one doctor
At KD Cancer Centre, every cancer case is reviewed by a multidisciplinary tumour board: A panel of surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists who jointly decide the most suitable treatment plan for you.
This collaborative approach means your care is shaped by the combined judgment of several experts, ensuring well-rounded, evidence-based decisions in line with practices followed at leading cancer centres across the world.
